Mineral Makeup is far more popular today compared to how it was a mere 4 years ago. Every store you go in today has a version of mineral makeup displayed, but just how much of a natural cosmetic alternative are they offering you? With all this hype about mineral makeup, how is the minerals makeup the big boys are offering you different from what they've been offering you for years now? From what I've noticed when turning the products over to investigate and compare the ingredients.......they're absolutely the same! Oh wait! Let me be fair, they did leave out the ingredient they used as a pressing medium.

Let's Investigate

If ever you compare the basic ingredients of mineral and traditional cosmetics under a microscope, there wouldn't be much difference. Mineral makeup would use titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, iron oxides, (silk) micas and a few select other specialty ingredients that each formulator including myself( MilanMinerals) hand pick to individualize our cosmetics line. Some of these minerals are also, surprisingly,present in traditional makeup.

Just what are these ingredients and tell us what they do?

Titanium oxide is mainly a skin protector against harmful rays from the sun. Zinc oxide works along with titanium dioxide in protecting the skin against the harmful ultraviolet rays. Though please keep in mind,having cosmetics tested for an SPF rating is very expensive, though these are very good for their sunscreen properties,MilanMinerals always advises you to wear an SPF sunscreen or moisturizer.

Iron oxides are present in mineral foundations, they are originally in red, orange and yellow colors. Meanwhile,various other mica's, micas are added for different reasons all together,mostly based on the vision of the formulator. I prefer using ingredients that I know are not going to look chalky on darker ethnic skin tones, and those that don't dilute the color pay off of the shade I'm trying to create. Some mineral makeup have vitamins and other minerals. Whenever, you are using a new make-up, whether it is mineral or traditional, we suggest being aware of the ingredients and what they are used for. This is especially helpful to ladies who are concerned about skin break outs and allergic reactions to various ingredients. The beauty of buying from smaller online companies is that you have the ability to easily purchase a product created without the ingredients in the past that have broken you out and simply left your skin a mess! There are instances that these ingredients can provoke an allergic reaction when in contact with the skin. This is also why it's very important for new consumers to be knowledgeable while shopping and aware enough to realize, the mainstream companies haven't stepped it up, and created a better more natural product,they simply didn't press it. Pick up some of their pressed or liquid makeup,now pick up their mineral product......how different are the ingredient lists? Not much if any.

Traditional powders tend to enhance the face’s wrinkles,so they say.......I'm a realist in regards to this, because I know this statement all depends on your application method .I've seen women wearing the traditional brands of makeup and they look flawless and beautiful. I've also seen women wearing mineral makeup who look a cakey mess. So regardless of the makeup you use, application is key. Take your time and practice your preferred application method and I'm sure you'll be beautiful either way.

Above the surface

What’s good about mineral makeup is that it can be used on all the types of skin. But even if it can be used on different skin types, it's still important to identify what colors are suitable to your skin tone and at the same time provides the right formulation for YOU. Still, traditional makeup also serves that purpose. You just have to be conscious with the makeup that you choose,mineral or traditional, since there can be additives bad for your skin.

There are some skin treatments which would not allow you to use cosmetics afterward. But with mineral makeup,the ingredients are so simple and few, they don't irritate skin that has undergone various facial treatments. While some mineral makeup brands, tout their users being able to sleep in their makeup it's so gentle,MilanMinerals highly advises you to wash your makeup off at night regardless of the brand! There are some who chose to use mineral makeup since it is more cost effective. Since, with mineral makeup you use less makeup with the same results.
